After completing her studies at Toho Gakuen School of Music, she went on to Paris Conservator and The Juilliard School of Music for masters degree. She received a special prize in Lon-Jacques Thibaud International Music Competition. She has also won the Ravel Prize in Robert Casadesus International Piano Competition. In 1987, she made her debut at Carnegie Hall in New York and received high acclaimation from the New York Times. Ms. Mikami has been engaging in performances internationally.
At age 7, she started piano, composing and violin lessons. While studying at Toho Gakuen School of Music, she went to study in Paris. In 1987, she won the prize for Piano section at the International Music Competition of Japan. In 1989, she won the second prize in Chamber Music category of UFAM International Competition in France, along with other numerous competitions. She performs chamber music with members of internationally well recognized orchestras. She became an official pianist at Kyoto- France Music Academy in 1990 and at the Nagano-Aspen Music Festival in 1994. She is currently a resident pianist at Toho Gakuen School of Music.
